Saturday 20th February 2010
11am - 4:30pm

Yoga Akasha, First Floor, The Old Mill, 45 London Road, East Grinstead, West Sussex RH19 1AW

Philip is an inspiring teacher: he is pragmatic, empowering and grounded. He sees the breath as the crucial energetic and contemplative link between body, mind and spirit, and has developed his own integrated style of teaching encompassing these aspects - always leading students onwards towards a more subtle appreciation of the essence of Yoga.

Philip originally trained with Dr. Swami Gitananda in India in 1980. He has been teaching Yoga continuously ever since, in this country and abroad. Before this he studied with various Meditation schools and continues this contemplative strand within his teaching and his practice.

He acquired a BA(Hons) degree in 1984 mainly focused on Yoga and Eastern Religion and trained with the British Wheel of Yoga in 1986.

Philip is available to teach on all aspects of Yoga. At present he tutors three in-depth teacher training days for the British Wheel of Yoga covering basic breathing, Polarity, Pranayama, Pancha Kosha (the five sheaths), Tri Granthi (the three phychic knots) and the major nadis.

Since 2000 Philip also now tutors a 1 year in-depth Foundation and Teacher Training course on all aspects of Pranayama. The course begins each October usually in London and one other venue. Click here for course information.

Philip also teaches Massage, Reflexology and Touch For Health.

PRANAYAMA IN PERSPECTIVE
THE FIVE PHASES OF PROGRESSIVE PRACTICE

DAY SEMINAR 11am - 4:30pm

There seems to be little logical, structured, developmental teaching or practice of Pranayama that covers the vast array of control, conditioning and attunement processes leading up to Classical Kumbhaka. And yet, there does exist such a structure spread over 5 general levels of practice :

FOUNDATIONS - control of the breath/lungs and initial attunement of the
                                                 subtle anatomy

DEVELOPMENTAL - holistic development of body, emotions, mind and spirit
                                                 through rhythmical breathing.
ALIGNMENT - harmonisation of the Koshas
PURIFICATION - of Surya and Chandra Nadis via rhythmical alternation of
the breath through the nostrils and application of Bandhas
CLASSICAL - the eight Kumbhakas.

The Day will give a ‘bird’s eye’ view and experience of the FIVE PHASES via lecture and practice. The Day will be ‘workshop’ style – an explanation of the particular phase giving an understanding of its physical and energetic aims followed by a practical application of one or more practices taken from that phase.

The Day will also include integrated Asana and Relaxation practices.

The day costs £45

The session is limited to 30 mat spaces
